Built for Facilitation: Course Assets That Guide and Engage

Project: Storyboarding a Soft Skill eLearning Module

To address communication challenges among new hires in a customer-facing role, I designed an interactive eLearning storyboard focused on foundational soft skills. This project aimed to reduce performance issues and improve retention by equipping employees with practical communication strategies.

Grounded in Bloom’s Taxonomy, the learning objectives guide learners from basic understanding to applied performance and the storyboard incorporates the following:

  • Scenario-based learning

  • Knowledge checks

  • Reflective prompts to reinforce key concepts in a relatable, engaging way

As the sole designer and developer, I conducted a needs analysis, wrote the instructional script, and designed interactive components using Articulate Storyline logic. Visual elements were created using Canva and Adobe Illustrator to enhance clarity and learner engagement.

Below, you can explore the full storyboard, which includes branching logic, scripted narration, and sample interactivity.

Project Analysis:

  • Needs Analysis: Identified performance gaps and learner pain points through stakeholder input and job role research.

  • Instructional Design: Applied scenario-based learning and alignment to Bloom’s Taxonomy for meaningful learner progression.

  • Authoring Tools: Used Storyline to design logic-driven interactivity and Adobe tools for visual design.

Project: Designing a Comprehensive Online Course

During my graduate studies, I undertook a project that challenged me to design an entire online course on a topic of my choosing. For this project, I developed a complete course package that included:

  • A detailed syllabus outlining course objectives, policies, and assessments.

  • A comprehensive course schedule mapping out the content delivery.

  • A fully functional LMS course shell.

  • Both asynchronous and synchronous lessons to engage learners throughout the semester.

This experience required me to adopt the perspective of an instructor, carefully crafting course materials and policies that promote effective learning. Below, you can access my "Introduction to Watercolor Painting" course documents, including the syllabus, course schedule, and a synchronous lesson plan.

Project Analysis:

  • Content Organization: Determined subordinate and prerequisite knowledge and skills.

  • Communication: Utilized appropriate tools to effectively connect with learners, clients, and other stakeholders.

  • Instructional Design: Developed targeted instructional strategies and activities to enhance the learning experience.
